Personal Statement

Because of our years of experience, we know that the job of leadership is to create a ‘safe space’ for people to engage and work together in. Safety refers to physical, emotional and cognitive safety and is about creating a space where people can be their authentic selves, contribute and grow for their personal, as well as organisational benefit. Successful D&I initiatives can see how systems interact and how the different dimensions of a system impact each other. Managing the D&I space means being able to take a systems perspective and understand the levels through which effective change can be created. We help with understanding how to make effective change through people.

Our Story

David Walsh is a former Irish Police officer who has spent over twenty years working in Irish and international organisations on Diversity and Inclusion. He knows what works and what doesn’t work when introducing Diversity and Inclusion programmes. His D&I journey began after completing an MPhil research thesis at Trinity College, Dublin on Policing Pluralism. He subsequently established the first Irish policing unit to manage diversity.

For almost twenty years, since leaving the police David has worked with some of the world’s leading organisations facilitating, coaching, training, guiding and developing strategies for Diversity and Inclusion. He has observed how many organisations try to introduce diversity programmes with limited results. As result of his experience, David knows the KEY reason why so many D&I initiatives fail and don’t get the traction they need to succeed. His life’s work is to share that knowledge with as many as he can so that human differences are viewed as organisational and individual opportunities to grow, develop and reach full potential

The Solution

David knows that organisations cannot ‘do D&I’. Successful D&I initiatives are principle-based, new paradigms and a better way of organisational life.

The OpenMinds solution is to help our clients reimagine approaches to D&I. To help make that that possible we have created the seven stage DIVERSITY CONSCIOUS ORGANISATION framework model to help embed D&I as an organisational opportunity.

The benefits of our solution are that you have a step by step framework to operate with so that you can make your initiative a long-lasting, sustainable and appealing programme.
